Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) - Military Service Protections

What is SCRA?
The Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) is a federal law that provides certain legal and financial protection to eligible servicemembers (and in some cases their dependents) while the servicemember is on active duty or otherwise in qualifying military service.
Who is eligible?
You may be eligible for SCRA protections if you are currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces on active duty or are otherwise in “military service” as defined by federal law. Eligibility depends on your individual status and circumstances.
What types of protection may apply in housing or eviction matters?
Depending on your circumstances, the SCRA may provide protections related to court proceedings, including protections that can apply when a person does not appear in court and a party seeks a default judgment. In certain situations, the SCRA may also affect how a court addresses housing-related proceedings involving an eligible servicemember or dependents.
